Why it matters on a Run MyRobot cell
Industrial robots are repeatable long before they are accurate. A robot will return to a taught point reliably, but a position calculated from a CAD model — which is exactly how a SINUMERIK-controlled robot is programmed — lands off by the accumulated geometric error of the arm. Calibration is what closes that gap.
- Machining and trimming — part accuracy comes from the programmed path, not from a taught point, so kinematic error shows up directly in the workpiece.
- Offline programming — posted programs run without re-teaching only if the real kinematic matches the model.
- Robot replacement — a calibrated cell takes a replacement arm without reworking the program.
- External axes — rails and positioners are aligned into the same kinematic model rather than treated as separate frames.
- Drift and collisions — recalibration restores accuracy in-house instead of scheduling a service visit.
