Electrical Design Consultant 

Working primarily as an Electrical Design Consultant, the successful candidate will work under the direction of the Design Manager, Senior Engineers and/or N.C. Director of Engineering.  

Essential Duties: 

  • Selection of Electrical & Instrumentation components as required per specifications 
  • Preparing Electrical Schematics and Panel drawings, as well as incorporating changes to drawings 
  • Assisting in Assembly / Fabrication of Control Panels as required 
  • Assisting in Generating Preliminary Bill of Materials for Proposals 
  • Assisting in Panel check-out (hardware acceptance test) 
  • Specify Programmable Logic Controller Modules based on Instrumentation Lists and/or legacy drawings 
  • Collaborate with all members of the engineering team & electrical panel shop to successfully specify needed components for operation and installation of the equipment 
  • Intentionally seek opportunities to grow and develop others as well as yourself

Technical Requirements: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen 
  • Technical degree in related discipline or related experience required 
  • Software Experience Required, EPLAN, AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical (2+ Years), Microsoft Office (Excel 2+ Years), PLC Skills a plus, Inventor, SolidWorks, and EPLAN experience are a plus 
  • Industrial Controls design: +5 years (Preferred) 
  • Electrical installation experience is a plus 
  • Extensive knowledge of UL508A Standard for Safety Industrial Control Panels 
  • Knowledge of ISA 5.1-3 Standards 
  • Knowledge of NFPA 79 Standards 
  • Experience in performing SCCR (Short Circuit Current Rating) coordination 
  • Experience in load calculations for 3 Phase and Single 
  • Extensive knowledge of National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) 

Other requirements and attributes: 

  • Solid understanding of PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI Operator Stations, Communication Architecture such as Ethernet, Control net, Device net etc., Motor Controls, Variable Frequency Drives, Servo Drives, Safety Emergency Stop Systems, Analog Instrumentation and requirements 
  • Other job duties as required
